Who We Are
The Tennessee Valley ILHA Liberty Horse Club is a community of passionate horsewomen and horsemen united by a shared love of liberty horsemanship — the art of communicating with horses without ropes, constraints, or force.
Based in the Tennessee Valley and drawing members from Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama, our club warmly welcomes riders and non-riders of all levels and across all equine disciplines and all geographies. Liberty knows no borders — if you share a passion for this discipline, you belong here. Whether you are just beginning your journey or are a seasoned practitioner, you will find a welcoming home here.
As a proud local chapter of the International Liberty Horse Association (ILHA), we are dedicated to supporting, celebrating, and promoting liberty as a discipline — upholding the highest standards of ethical, compassionate horsemanship.
"Liberty is not a trick. It is not a performance. It is a conversation — and every horse has something profound to say."— The Spirit of Liberty Horsemanship
Our Philosophy
The Tennessee Valley ILHA Liberty Horse Club was founded by liberty enthusiasts — people just like you, who fell in love with this discipline and wanted to build something together. We are member-driven — built from the ground up by people who simply love liberty and wanted a place to grow together.
All liberty training styles and philosophies are welcomed and embraced here. Whether you follow a specific method or have forged your own path, you will find open minds and open hearts in this community.
That means every member has a real voice. The events we host, the clinicians we invite, the direction we grow — all of it is shaped by the people in this club. Whether you are a seasoned equine professional, a passionate amateur, or someone who just discovered liberty last week, your perspective matters here and your experience enriches us all.
We believe the best learning happens when everyone is welcome at the fence.

Every decision we make begins with the wellbeing and happiness of the horse. Liberty only works when the horse is a willing participant — and that is always our guide.
We hold ourselves to the highest standards of compassionate horsemanship as defined by the ILHA. No force, no shortcuts — only patient, respectful partnership built over time.
Liberty is a journey without end. Our club is a place to grow, to learn, to make mistakes, and to celebrate breakthroughs — together, with the best teachers of all: our horses.
Our Facebook Page is our primary and growing online home. Follow us here for the latest news, event announcements, photos, and updates as we build this community together.

Join the Group →We currently maintain both a Facebook Page and a public Group, and are gradually moving to the Page as our primary home. We recommend joining both so you never miss an announcement, event, or update during the transition.
Our Governing Body
The International Liberty Horse Association (ILHA) is the premier global organization dedicated to the recognition, development, and promotion of liberty horsemanship as a legitimate and respected equestrian discipline.
Founded to give voice and structure to a rapidly growing movement, the ILHA sets ethical standards, offers educational resources, and connects liberty enthusiasts around the world.
Through competitions, clinics, workshops, and community events, the ILHA continues to raise the profile of liberty work — celebrating the extraordinary bond that develops when a horse chooses to engage freely with its human partner.
As an official local chapter, the Tennessee Valley Liberty Horse Club connects our members across Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama to this vibrant global community, bringing world-class resources and opportunities to the entire tri-state region.

The Tennessee Valley Liberty Horse Club is a proud official local chapter of the International Liberty Horse Association — supporting, celebrating, and promoting liberty as a discipline while connecting our community to the world's premier liberty horsemanship network.
The Discipline
Liberty horsemanship is the art of communicating and connecting with a horse that is entirely free — no halter, no lead rope, no force. It is perhaps the purest expression of the horse-human partnership, and one of the most breathtaking things you will ever witness.

The Foundations
In liberty work, the horse is always free to leave. The fact that it chooses to stay, to engage, to respond — that is the entire point. Willing participation is what distinguishes liberty from conventional training.
Horses communicate through body language, energy, and subtle cues. Liberty asks us to learn their language — to become fluent in the silent conversation horses share with one another naturally in the herd.
You cannot fake liberty. The horse always knows. Building the trust required for genuine liberty work takes patience, consistency, and deep respect for the horse as a sentient being with its own thoughts and feelings.
When fully realized, liberty becomes breathtaking — horses cantering freely alongside their handlers, rearing on a subtle signal, or performing intricate patterns together as if dancing to music only they can hear.
Liberty principles benefit any horse and any handler. Whether you compete, practice groundwork, or simply enjoy time with your horse, the communication skills developed through liberty work will transform every interaction you share.
Liberty is not a destination — it is a path. Each session reveals something new about your horse, about yourself, and about the invisible thread of understanding that grows between two willing souls.
